ART PSYCHOTHERAPY
Art Therapy is a therapeutic modality that supports clients wellbeing in a creative, safe, non-confrontational way
Art Psychotherapy at Kids Inspired uses a child-lead approach to provide clients with the opportunity to explore and express themselves through art making within a safe and therapeutic environment.
Therapy Services

Creative expression allows the client to process and explore their internal world, using both verbal and non-verbal approaches. With the support of an Art Psychotherapist, space is created so that clients can:

- Express themself creatively
- Play freely
- Regulate their internal state
- Externalise their inner world
- Process emotions and thoughts
- Build social skills
- Improve self-esteem, confidence and resilience
- Reduce anxiety symptoms
- Promote positive mental health.

Each session is tailored to client's individual needs, therapy goals and their capacity. Our approach is client-centred, child lead, caring and compassionate. No artistic skills or experience is required; we focus on the process not the product.

Starting Art Psychotherapy:

An initial parent session helps the therapist to:
• Gather background information on child and family history
• Discuss goals from a parent’s perspective
• Explore benefits and expectations of Art Therapy
• Answer any questions!

Ongoing sessions are then booked with your child and initially focus on:
• Getting to know the client and familiarising them with art materials and the space
• Explore what art therapy is and the difference between art classes and therapy.
• Establishing boundaries and expectations for the sessions,
• Building rapport.

Further information:
- Sessions are 45mins (NDIS) or 50mins (self-referral)
- Non-directive approach (allows the client to make art based on what organically comes up in conversation, or based on an idea the client comes in with)
- Directive approach (pre-planned art-based activity targeting a particular skill or topic)
- All art materials are provided by Kids Inspired, however your child can bring their own.
- Sessions are conducted by our Art Therapist, Tahlee, who is registered with PACFA
